ABOUT
አዲስቅኝት New perspective is an Ethiopian Print and Broadcasting Media outlet based in Toronto, and published under the auspice of Bridge Entertainments. The media is founded by an Ethiopian writer and filmmaker Gezahegn Mekonnen. Currently Bridge Entertainments is publishing Addiskignitአዲስቅኝት/New perspective trilingual monthly in Toronto and Ontario. Producing documentaries focusing on African Culture in general and Eastern African in particular.
Gezahegn Mekonnen Demissie is an Ethiopian journalist and filmmaker, and one of the founding board members of PEN Ethiopia, Executive Director of Bridge Entertainment. He currently lives in exile in Toronto, Canada, where he Publish and edits the community journal New Perspective አዲስ ቅኝት, and hosts “New Perspective አዲስ ቅኝት,”, a radio show/podcast. He is currently Chairing Writer’s in Exile group under Pen Canada.
In Ethiopia, he directed and produced several documentaries, two feature films and produced a TV series on urban culture and architecture in Addis Ababa. He came to Canada in 2015 and has since continued to develop projects about Ethiopia and the immigrant experience.
“Tizita” is his first short documentary for CBC Short Doc, and it was produced in collaboration with Canadian production companies Primitive Entertainment and Rhombus Media.
